Beginners Course
Public Speaking for Kids
Theory and Practise
The beginners Public Speaking Course for Kids is a series of weekly workshops which equip children with the skills and knowledge to be able to deliver their message with impact.
Students are encouraged to talk about a topic they are passionate about, making the task easier while allowing their passion to shine. They build confidence in performing in public and in their ability to memorise and deliver a talk. Moreover, the sessions are fun and relaxed, so children feel safe to learn, experiment, express and enjoy the course.
Through games, activities and lessons, children will learn about, practise and develop:
Vocal tips, tricks and techniques and warm-ups
Body language basics
Reading an audience
Presentation techniques
Scriptwriting
Messaging through stories
Building confidence
Abdominal breathing
Managing nervousness
Body-brain feedback loop–triggering positive emotion and inner feelings of confidence through body and voice
First impressions
The beginner course sets the foundations, teaching simple concepts grounded in science.
No experience needed. Suitable for all abilities, including children who are introverted, shy, or those with anxiety, issues with confidence, etc. We provide an environment where they feel safe to learn and develop–even if they don’t want to speak in public. The knowledge and skills learned will be a valuable in other areas of their life, helping them to become better and more confident communicators.
Next Level Course
Public Speaking for Kids
Practise (Building on Beginner Level THEORY)
Next Level Public Speaking Course for Kids is designed for students who have already completed the beginner course, as we build on previously learned concepts.
This course is also suitable for children who need to build confidence quickly, as students get ample opportunities to speak in front of the group.
Children who are unable to attend the beginner course due to timing are also welcome to enrol.
These ongoing sessions provide an opportunity for students to put their skills into practise, with further learning, development and feedback.
We'll build on concepts previously learned, with activities and exercises designed to develop participants further.
A portion of the course will focus on improvisation. Students will have plenty of practise in standing up and talking about topics they select and topics randomly allocated to them to grow confidence in speaking off the cuff. For these short talks, students will have varied planning times to develop flexibility, and understanding of personal strengths and weaknesses in relation to time and effort. As always, we take small steps to develop confidence so that students feel like they are in a safe space.
This course also provides the opportunity for students to work together, creating a video production of a group talk, where they script, perform and edit the video as a group project.
Emphasis will be on practise, focusing on using the body and voice to communicate, engage and influence—life skills that are not limited to public speaking.
No pior experience needed.
These are mixed age/ability courses; each term, courses can vary in participants' age/ability. The content covered is the same taught to adults, presented in a format understandable for children aged seven and upwards. It applies to all ages/abilities. If your child/children will likely refuse to attend because they will be among younger children, please think twice before booking.
Mixed-aged courses are offered for multiple reasons, including:
Inclusivity
Courses form a relatively small component of my work; therefore, time limitations prevent offering additional courses.
Split-aged courses have not gathered enough (older) students to be sustainable, and trials have previously incurred financial loss.
Mixed-age learning develops tolerance, patience and emotional maturity, essential for emotional intelligence–a key topic of several of my courses/camps.
Students under 16 are not permitted to join adult courses.
